The puppies names' were 'My Fair Lady' themed as Julie was the original person to play Eliza Doolittle, first on Broadway, and then in London at the Royal Theater, Drury Lane Learner and Loewe, who'd acquired the rights to the play, had discovered Julie during one of her Broadway performances of 'The Boy Friend', and had, together with the help of Moss Hart, decided that she was perfect for the title role! After being 'molded' and coached by Moss, Julie did indeed make a grand Eliza!
Name: Cloverbud My Fair Lady
On March, 15th, 1956, the musical adaptation of Bernard Shaw's 'Pygmalion' premiered on Broadway as 'My Fair Lady'. Julie played the lead role.
Name: Cloverbud Henry Higgins
(Professor) Henry Higgins, the name of the lead character who was portrayed so well by Rex Harrison both up against Julie on Broadway and then later in the film version against Audrey Hepburn.
Name: Cloverbud Just You Wait
Professor Higgins treats Eliza quite badly as all she is to him is an experiment and a bet (to prove that he can turn a 'poor cockney girl' into a beautiful, well spoken, well mannered lady)and so Eliza is fuming and signs a song about her sweet revenge which goes 'Just you wait, 'enry 'iggins, just you wait!
You'll be sorry, but your tears'll be to late!...'
Name: Cloverbud Show Me Now
Henry Higgins does not want to accept or admit his feelings for Eliza to start with and hence her singing the song 'Show me' in sheer & utter frustration. It goes: '...Haven't your arms Hungered for mine? Please don't "expl'ine," Show me! Show me! Don't wait until wrinkles and lines Pop out all over my brow, Show me now!'
Name: Cloverbud Eliza Doolittle
-The name of the lead character of the play.
Name: Cloverbud Oh So Loverly
From Julie's introductory song as Eliza Doolittle 'Wouldn't it be loverly?'
Name: Cloverbud Danced All Night
Eliza & Professor Higgins dance together one night and develop feelings for one another... Upon bidding him goodnight Eliza sing what is probably the most famous ballad from the whole of the show: 'I could have danced all night'.
Name: Cloverbud Do Without You
Pepper & Salt(v. dark!) , male.Henry Higgins quite fancies himself as someone who's better/more worthy than our dear Eliza and so Eliza sing the song 'Do without You' in reply to his stupidity. '....There'll be spring every year without you, England still will be hear without you, There'll be fruit on the tree and a shore by the sea, There'll be crumpets and tea without you, Art and music will thrive without you, Somehow Keats will survive without you, And there still will be rain, On that plain down in Spain,
Even that will remain without you, I can do...Without you!
Please Note: This puppy WAS very much wanted and it was NOT a hint that we could have done without him! -I just thought it made a fabulous name and since he was the 'odd one out' in terms of colour in the litter the name really suited him!
